Free GO! 217 Thriller Workout Open to the Public

Just in time for those Halloween parties, learn the moves to Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller.” This dance is the latest free exercise class that HSHS Good Shepherd and the Shelby County Senior Center are sponsoring.

This dance workout event will be held Thursday, October 5 at the Shelby County Senior Center in Forest Park, starting at 7 p.m. All ages are encouraged to come. The dance-style workout is designed for everyone. This event is free, and registration is not required. Bring a friend and don’t forget your drink – hydration is important!

"We wanted to use the GO! 217 venue to bring fitness back to the public, but differently, so we turned to dancing. October’s fitness classes will feature the popular but lively ‘Thriller’ dance moves which will help you lose weight, one step at a time,” Tonya Bowrey, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital rehabilitation services and wellness manager, said. “September’s class offered square dancing. At our square-dancing night, our Fitbits averaged over 2,000 steps. Come join us for a fun and dynamic evening.”

The goal of GO! 217 is to keep our community moving and improve the overall health of everyone who lives in the 217-area code. This program is geared toward the cities where our Hospital Sisters Health System Central Illinois hospitals are located – Springfield, Decatur, Litchfield and Shelbyville. Free workouts will regularly be held on the first Thursday of each month in each of our HSHS central Illinois communities.

GO! 217 partners include HSHS St. John’s Hospital, the Springfield Park District, FitClub, Scheels, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, HSHS St. Francis Hospital, FIT-to-GO in Litchfield and the Shelby County Senior Center in Shelbyville. Together we are all committed to helping our 217 communities improve their health and wellness through GO! 217.
