HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital Celebrates Christmas

SHELBYVILLE – HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital knows that spending the holidays as a patient isn’t how most people would choose to celebrate. That is why the mission integration team, led by Lorrie Hayden and Tonya Bowrey, have Christmas plans to spread joy to HSHS Good Shepherd patients.
  • Christmas story, Cristin Foster will begin sharing the nativity story each morning on Monday, Dec. 17, during the morning prayer.
  • Celebrating the nativity scenes – St. Francis of Assisi is accredited with staging the first nativity scene in 1223. Good Shepherd has three nativity scenes located in the main registration waiting room, the chapel entrance and a large outdoor scene. Information cards are available on the nativity scenes and its connection to Franciscan heritage. The cards are placed beside the indoor nativity scenes.
  • Christmas caroling – On Wednesday, Dec. 19, colleagues will gather at 5 p.m. and serenade the patients, guests and fellow colleagues.
  • Mass – Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel.
  • Christmas Evening Candlelight Service – Held on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m., this will be a colleague-led program of songs, readings and prayers. Please join us in the chapel for this special evening.
  • Christmas trees of care to patients – Starting on Friday, Dec. 21, the hospital will begin delivering small Christmas trees to the patients. The trees’ decorations are designed by members of the mission integration team.
“Christmas season is an especially wonderful time of year as we approach the birthdate of our Lord and Savior,” said Aaron Puchbauer, HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital president and CEO. “As part of our holistic approach to medicine to treat the body, soul and mind, we want to make our patients as cheerful as possible as we share the joy of the season with them.”
